Moose, Eagles rookies earn QMJHL kudos

Rookies Nathan MacKinnon of the Halifax Mooseheads and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles’ Jean-Simon Deslauriers have been named the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s RDS mid-season rookie award-winners.

Each of the league’s 17 teams nominates a rookie at the league’s half-way mark of the season. On April 4, the league’s RDS rookie of the year will be honoured at a ceremony in Montreal.

Ex-X-Men star Marousek nominated for pro look

Former St. Francis Xavier X-Men soccer standout Michael Marousek was one of four candidates nominated by Canadian university coaches to attend the United Soccer League’s (USL) Pro Combine in Florida this January.

Marousek, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, finished his five-year St. F.X. career as the school’s all-time leading goal scorer, third in conference history, with 43. He was a two-time CIS first-team all-Canadian and the 2010 AUS most valuable player.

I still hate potty training, though!  It's not so much about cleaning up the mess, I just hate being in lockdown mode, feeling totally stir-crazy because I can't leave the house (not that I really even want to in this yucky 10 degree weather).  It's also the constant stress of wondering, "Where is he right now?  Is he going to ruin something if he has an accident right now?  How long has it been since he last went?"  Because at this point, I am still the one initiating the trips to the bathroom.  He definitely still has a way to go before he will be fully trained.

Whenever I have a tough decision before me, I usually let selfishness be my guide. Not great for my moral health, but it usually works in the short term.

Over the past few months, as my 6- and 4-year-old boys have grown closer and closer together in size, I've begun to lose track of whose underoos are whose. So, come laundry time, I find myself staring down a pair of Lego Star Wars Hanes trying to remember who it was I saw running down the neighborhood street in them last week.

It was mentally taxing, not to mention time-consuming. I needed a solution.

I settled on only boxer briefs for the older one, regular briefs for the younger one. I went out and bought just enough boxer briefs to get the older one through a week, week and a half without me having to do laundry, and I bequeathed each of his briefs to his younger brother (who now, BTW, has about 900 pair of underoo briefs).
