PAUL Perry is on a quest to become just the third Newcastle trainer to win the $2million Magic Millions Classic (1200metres) for two-year-olds at the Gold Coast.
Perry is banking on his young jump-and-run gelding Hidden Warrior taking him to the Gold Coast for next month’s big race.
Hidden Warrior ran second to Pierro in the Breeders Plate (1000metres) at Randwick and resumed with a brilliant all-the-way win in a barrier trial on Tuesday at Broadmeadow.
The son of Hidden Dragon and Marcovette breezed along in front to win by a length.
The winning margin would have been much bigger if he had been let go at any stage of the trial.
‘‘He is just a natural two-year-old and that is in his favour going forward to a Magic Millions,’’ Perry said.
‘‘But it is going to be very tough just to get a run in the Magic Millions.
‘‘It seems every good youngster produced so far this season is a Magic Millions graduate.
