More than 300,000 Wisconsinites are said to have signed petitions demanding the recall of Governor Scott Walker. That's according to United Wisconsin, the group that's organizing the petition drive.

We won't know the actual numbers until they're filed with the state. And Meghan Mahaffey of United Wisconsin says they won't be filed until the date they're due -- January 17th -- even if they reach their targets before then. The group needs 540,000 valid signatures in separate petitions to order recall elections against Walker and Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch. But it plans to get up to 700,000 just to be sure. Mahaffey says the number of people signing petitions to recall Kleefisch are very close to the Walker numbers. Petition drives are also underway to order recall elections against four GOP state senators. Ben Sparks of the state Republican Party said Democrats and their supporters are trying to generate quote, "false momentum in their never-ending effort to score political points." And he said Wisconsin's families are only interested in moving the state forward.
