Salisbury’s boys basketball team opened its season with a 76-58 win against High Point Westchester.
The Hornets trailed 28-18 but finished the first half on a 13-2 run to take a 31-30 lead.
Then the Hornets took charge in the third quarter.
Tony Nunn (21 points, 12 rebounds) kept the Hornets in the game in the first half, and Tyler Petty hit two key 3s in the third quarter on his way to 16 points.
Dejoun Jones added 13 points.
“It was their fifth game and our first, so I really didn’t know what to expect,” Salisbury coach Jason Causby said. “We played well enough to win against a good ball club and we were able to defend a team that put five athletic bodies on the floor.”
Sadeeq Bello, whose brother Deuce plays at Baylor, led Westchester with 16 points.
“We were able to rotate fresh bodies and wear him down some,” Causby said. “Our defense was key in harassing their guards. Jones, Kalil Duncan and Buster Hillie had really good games....
