Inmates still locked down after fight
LOWELL — The Marion Correctional Institution in Lowell remained on lockdown Monday following a fight Saturday that involved approximately 30 to 40 inmates.
The fight broke out between unidentified Hispanic and black gangs, according to Jo Ellyn Rackleff, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Corrections.
There were no serious injuries reported in the fight, which began just after 9 a.m. in the recreation yard.
The melee caused the cancellation of visitation for the weekend.
Prison officials are continuing to investigate the incident and visitation may be restored by the weekend, Rackleff said.
3 men reportedly robbed at gunpoint
Two gunmen barged into a shed late Sunday night and robbed three men inside after firing several shots.
The three men were in a shed behind a home at 1611 NW 35th St. just before midnight when two men wearing all black clothing and armed with rifles broke in and ordered the men to the floor, according to Marion County sheriff’s reports.
